LanDiscovery : Seamlessly browse local area networks for computers, in order to find and access shared resources using this straightforward utility
LanDiscovery is a straightforward piece of software that you can use to browse your local network connections for remote computers, in order to identify shared folders that you can access. It doesn't come loaded with complex options or configuration parameters, so it can be handled by all types of users.
Simple setup and interface
The installation procedure is simple and fast. As far as the interface is concerned, LanDiscovery adopts a classical-looking window that automatically scans the LAN at startup and displays remote PCs.
Find and access shared resources
Selecting any PC from the list triggers the tool to send the ping command, after which it shows shared resources, namely the name, type and comment for each item. Evidently, you need to have login credentials for the remote machine to be able to access shared data. Moreover, the software application integrates an option for rescanning the local network in case new PC connections have been established in the meantime, as well as to stop the scan. There are no other notable options available here.
Evaluation and conclusion
There were no stability issues in our tests, thanks to the fact that the program didn't hang, crash or prompt error dialogs. As expected, its impact on the overall performance of the workstation was minimal, since it needed low CPU and RAM to work properly. We must take into account the fact that LanDiscovery hasn't been updated for a long time. It comes packed with just a handful of basic options for rookies and doesn't have any advanced configuration settings for more experienced users. However, you can test the tool for yourself, since it's free to use.
