In depth

A closer look at OpenedFilesView

OpenedFilesView is a straightforward and approachable software application that shows all currently opened files, along with a lot of information about them, like date of creation, handle code, and full path. It doesn't integrate complicated options or configuration parameters, making it accessible to all types of users.

View and export file information

The user-friendly GUI is represented by a classical window that doesn't have attractive graphical elements but it's easy to navigate. All opened files are automatically loaded in the list at startup, so you can study their name, full path, date of creation and last modification, handle code, attributes, size, access type (read, write, delete, shared write), granted access code and extension, along with the process ID, name and path.

Control processes and customize app settings

Any selected entries can be copied to the Clipboard, or the whole list can be exported to file for closer inspection. Furthermore, you can close handles, bring a process to the front, kill processes, open a file's location in Windows Explorer without leaving OpenedFilesView's interface, or use a basic search function to track down a particular file. The application can become non-intrusive by minimizing to the system tray. You can integrate it into the Explorer right-click menu or ask it to automatically mark modified file names and files with a changed position, convert to long path names, show opened directories and network files, as well as to hide files in the Windows folder, system process and Svchost files.

Evaluation and conclusion

No error dialogs were shown in our tests, and the tool didn't hang or crash. It had minimal impact on computer performance, using low CPU and RAM. Taking into account its advanced and intuitive options, OpenedFilesView should come in handy to all users looking to find out additional details about opened files.
