In backgammon, each player has 15 checkers of their own color. The object of the game is to move all the checkers from their starting positions towards their home, and then bear them off the board. The roll of the dice indicates how many spaces, or pips, you can move your checkers. The checkers are always moved counter-clockwise around the board, towards your home board. If you land on a single checker of the other player, you send that checker back to the beginning. The first player to bear off all their checkers is the winner.
