Overview

What is Cornice?

Cornice : View your favorite image files or large collection, with the possibility to save bookmarks of frequent locations, access an individual viewer, and start a slideshow

In depth

A closer look at Cornice

Since most modern devices are fitted with powerful cameras, pictures are quite a common resource and file type. Needless to say that you need an appropriate viewer to be able to properly enjoy previews, and there are various third-party alternatives in case the default tool doesn’t tickle your fancy, with Cornice being a suitable example here.

Individual navigator and viewer

With setup over before you realize, you quickly get the chance to see what it’s all about. The set of features is wrapped around a pretty clean interface, which is composed of multiple elements, such as a tree list, thumbnail viewer, as well as a list of files stored in the selected directory. General view options are found in an upper toolbar, and you can switch to a bookmarks editor.Although the application does offer a small preview in the thumbnail section, it also offers an external viewer. It’s brought up in a different window fitted with navigation controls, zoom functions, full screen mode, as well as a slideshow option. You can configure slideshow functions and attributes in the options panel.

Bookmarks manager and slideshow player

As mentioned, the application comes with a bookmarks manager. This might really come in handy, given the rather difficult tree navigation panel. Here you can add and remove common locations, which get updated in real-time as they’re updated with pictures. The application can only use its own viewer, but this isn’t really an inconvenience, while also capable of opening archives for picture previews. Lists can be sorted according to various related details, such as name, date, size, and type. The only downside to the entire experience is the lack of file management options, or the possibility to set the viewer as the system default one.

On an ending note

Taking everything into consideration, we can state that Cornice comes with the looks of a file manager, and the functionality of an image viewer. Even though you can’t manage files, it is a reliable method of analyzing and enjoying large collection of pictures you can also store in bookmarks.
