WinConvX is a nifty application designed for some of the DOS tools on your computer. The DirectX SDK comes with the following DOS tools that can be used to convert mesh files into .x files: Conv3ds.exe, Convx.exe, Convxof.exe.It sports a really intuitive graphical interface with lots of features and tools that you can adjust.

It allows you to convert 3D Studio Files (.3ds) into .x files and you can enable the feature that outputs models as single mesh without frame hierarchy. There's also the option to include animation data and wrap all hierarchies in a top level frame.The extension of texture for map files can be changed and you can have it exclude material or normal data. You'll need to provide the application with the source file and destination folder before you can actually start converting.

For the convx.exe file, you can generate text in x-file format and include template definitions. The same features are available for convxof.exe files, but you will have to provide it with the path of the original file and the destination folder.
