Overview

What is JpegExpress?

JpegExpress : Process JPG and BMP pictures to adjust output quality as well as orientation with options to save as a new fresh JPG picture thanks to this app

In depth

A closer look at JpegExpress

Pictures come under various different formats, each holding a particular type of attributes, which also dictate file size. However, some services might impose limitations regarding file or picture size, and for this you don’t need the original image at its best quality settings. As such, JpegExpress wants to help you process and convert pictures to save disk space and meet such demands.

Lightweight and easy to use

The application doesn’t make you run into any issues, but it is a good idea to make sure that .NET Framework is on your computer to be able to run it without problems. It can then be launched without a system restart, and the last step of the installer offers to bring it on your desktop to see what it’s all about. On the visual side of things, you’re put up against a dual-pane preview section which updates in real-time with the changes you apply to the loaded picture. Unfortunately, you’re only able to process one file at a time, which makes the overall process pretty time-consuming. There’s not even a list to temporarily have files ready, and dropping items over the window isn’t supported as an import option.

Poor set of processing options

The original image is displayed in one section along with the total size, with an associated field to display size after modifications. Truth is there isn’t really a great deal of options to tweak. There’s the possibility to adjust output quality through a slider, which means the only export option is the JPG format.Don’t expect any better support when it comes to import, with the only format besides JPG being BMP. Apart from quality, there’s also the possibility to rotate the image. Only after changes are made can you save the new JPG picture to a custom location.

In conclusion

All things considered, we can state that JpegExpress is a little underprepared to be your image resizer or processor for day to day activities. The lack of batch support is pretty frustrating, while the variety of options at your disposal might make you look for alternatives.
