Time-lapses, in general, are pretty astonishing to behold since they offer a unique cinematic perspective as well as the possibility to view the wholesome of any process at a very pronounced speed in a short period of time.Without going into too much detail, recording your screen's activity might be one of the best ideas for assessing the evolution of long-drawn projects. As you may have already picked up just be looking at its name, Windows TimeLapse Toolkit is an interesting piece of software that allows you to take period screenshots of your computer's screen and then mash them up together in a time-lapse video.

Extremely easy-to-work-with, despite the fact that it does not boast a proper UI

Before anything, we must point out that this utility does not feature a user interface per se but, instead, it relies on the Command Prompt to offer feedback. In spite of this fact, you should not be put off, since all the app's features can be conveniently accessed thanks to a series of .bat files that contain sequences of commands, making it suitable even for the most novice of users, as you will soon find out.Getting started with the application is by no means challenging as you only need to download the app and unzip its package, to begin with. Inside the archive, you will find various files and folders but the most important ones are the self-explanatory 'start-taking-screenshots.bat', 'create-timelapse-vide.bat' and 'config.ini'.

Capture screenshots and create time-lapse videos with no more than a few clicks

This said, start off by launching the firstly mentioned .bat file and leave it running for the whole period you are working on your projects. Please note that, by default, the utility captures screenshots at intervals of 30 seconds.Once you are done and you want to finish the so-called recording process, simply hit the CTRL+C command. This will terminate the screenshot batch capturing process. Now you can effortlessly create the time-lapse video by simply starting the latter mentioned .bat file. The time-lapse creation process is almost entirely automated and you are only required to hit a key once it has been completed, and that's about it.

Open the config.ini file and set up the utility based on your needs

You can find the time-lapse videos within the 'videos' folder, located in the utility's main folder. The same goes for the screenshots as they can also be accessed within the same folder.Chances are that the default interval of 30 seconds will not suit your needs. This is easily changeable by simply opening the configuration file using any basic text or source code editor and by changing this interval, as well as the video's framerate.

Simplicity and efficiency, perfectly intertwined

To conclude, Windows TimeLapse Toolkit is very interesting and useful utility for creating time-lapse videos of your on-screen activity without having to install third-party components and without hogging your computer's resources.Granted, it does not have a proper interface at the moment which, we admit, might disappoint some users, but the bottom line is quite clear: this app offers probably one of the easiest ways to create time-lapse videos of your screen activity.
