BlockCAD : Unleash your imagination to create amazing 3D structures out of LEGO blocks with the help of this lightweight software application.
Building blocks are something every child should have. However, since most youngsters use the computer, applications like BlockCAD give them the possibility to unleash their imagination in creating any structure with LEGO like blocks.
Fun but a little difficult to use
The provided interface is fitted with a generous workspace to view and place blocks that are found in a side panel. Available pieces are stored in categories that include nearly any needed part.Building is done simple by selecting a piece from the list and stacking them together. Unfortunately, you are not able to freely move the camera around using your mouse. The only way to do this is by using provided navigation buttons, cutting out a good amount of comfort.
Change color and visibility settings
By default, available pieces are white, but a color palette gives you the possibility to make each brick a different color. You can choose to place blocks directly with a selected color, or manually change it for specific pieces. The application lets you set a few view options. Texture quality can be modified, a lighting source can be added and even toggle studs on or off. Moreover, you are able to export every creation as an image file under some of the most commonly used formats. When selecting to save an image, a window frame is brought up which you can drag around the workspace and resize to capture only areas of interest.
In conclusion
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that BlockCAD is not only fun for children, but it can also keep a grown-up a good amount of time with his eyes glued to the screen. Content and options are abundant, but it gets a little hard to use due to the camera movement method.
