Screenshot Software is a simple-to-use command-line tool capable of capturing the full screen and immediately launching it into Paint to view, edit and save to file.It doesn't contain a complex syntax, making it accessible not only to those with previous experience in console apps, but also to beginners.

No setup required, besides Java

As long as you have Java installed on your computer, you don't need to set up anything else. This means that you can save the downloaded executable .jar file to a preferred directory on the disk or copy it to a USB flash drive to directly run it on any PC with Java.It doesn't add new entries to the Windows registry or create files on the disk without your permission. In order to uninstall it, you simply have to delete this file.

How to take screenshots

Once you double-click the .jar file or called its process from a Command Prompt dialog, the application automatically captures the current image in full screen and opens it in an instance of Windows Paint, giving you the possibility to preview the pictures, make modifications using various drawing tools (e.g. crop, rotate, pencil, fill color), as well as save the final image to an external file with the PNG, BMP, JPEG, GIF or TIF format.Worth noting is that each grabbed snapshot is auto-saved as a PNG file and placed in the temporary folder of the current user. It receives the current date as the name, in addition to a string of various numbers.There are no other notable options available, apart from the fact that you can resort to a third-party software product to be able to create a global keyboard shortcut and call Screenshot Software by just relying on the keyboard.

Evaluation and conclusion

It didn't put a strain on the computer's performance in our tests, running on a low amount of CPU and RAM. No errors popped up and it didn't hang or crash.Thanks to its straightforward approach, Screenshot Software can be easily handled by anyone looking to seamlessly capture fullscreen photos and open them in Windows Paint.
