rockBoxVideo Encoder is a small-sized and portable piece of software which enables you to seamlessly prepare media for playback on iPod nano or iPod video devices.It does not come packed with advanced options or configuration settings, making it suitable for all types of users, even the ones with little or no experience in such apps.

Portability advantages

Since there is no installation involved, you can drop the program files in any part of the hard disk and just click the executable to launch the tool. There is also the possibility to save it to a USB flash disk or other removable storage unit, in order to run it on any PC with minimum effort and no previous installers.An important aspect worth mentioning is that the Windows registry and Start menu do not get updated with new entries, and no extra files are created on the disk, thus leaving no traces behind after its removal.

Plain-looking interface with clear-cut settings

The GUI is user-friendly, represented by a classical window with a plain and simple structure, where you can open a video file using the file browser only, since the drag-and-drop method is not supported.All you have to do is specify the output directory, splitting mode (if any), as well as destination, in order to start the conversion procedure. In addition, you can ask the app to fit the video's height or width. There are no other notable options provided by this software utility.

Evaluation and conclusion

The app does not put a strain in computer performance, since it runs on low CPU and RAM. On the other hand, it failed several conversion jobs in our tests. We must also take into account that it has not been updated for a long time.
