A closer look at WSQUASH
The WSQUASH "Squashing" (scaling by even factors) and "Color Clipping" methods of image reduction somewhat preserve geometric objects and leave text almost readable. As such, the program creates nice "thumbnails" of screenshots.
Two command-line utilities are included for processing 256 color BMP files in batch. One reduces images by one third (3:2), and the other by a half (25% of the area). You can run these programs unattended in a production environment.
