is an excellent program for working with compressed ZIP archives.
Using the multi-window interface, you can easily view and manipulate ZIP archives and the files that they contain. File operations include adding, deleting, copying, moving, selecting, sorting, viewing, and, of course, zipping and unzipping. You can customize the display in a variety of ways and you can convert ZIP files into Windows or DOS-based self-extracting EXE files (which automatically extract their contents when run under Windows or DOS). Long filenames are now supported within ZIP files.
Other features include: enhanced support for creating self-extracting archives; a custom menu for launching your favorite application from within PKZIP; support for splitting or spanning large ZIP archives; the ability to directly modify file information within an archive; support for Public Key Infrastructure signatures; and the ability to send ZIP archives from within PKZIP using associated MAPI (Mail Application Protocol Interface) enabled e-mail programs such as Microsoft Outlook and Netscape Communicator.
Besides ZIP files, PKZIP now supports TAR, GZIP, JAR, CAB, Deflate64, DCL Implode, MIME, BinHex, UUencoded, and XXencoded archives. A helpful Wizard is also included.
